Where 45218 ends and 45240 begins

Greenhills uses ZIP 45218. That covers the historic core along Winton Road, the A through F streets, the town common with its shops and community building, and the newer northeastern section past Farragut and Ingram roads that lies outside the landmark district.

Forest Park uses 45240. That takes in the lettered sections such as C and K, neighborhoods like Forest Ridge, Birch Hill and Valley View, and the commercial area around Forest Fair Village. The Postal Service lists both ZIPs as Cincinnati and also names Parkdale for each, so mail addressed either way is still in Hamilton County.

Two police departments, one coroner

The Greenhills Police Department, serving about 3,700 people, works from 11000 Winton Road. The Forest Park Police Department, set up on October 1, 1961, is at 1201 West Kemper Road and serves a city of 20,189, the second most populous in Hamilton County. After a death that is sudden or unattended, officers contact the Hamilton County Coroner's Office, which has operated from Carver Woods Drive in Blue Ash since 2021.

Neither agency handles cleaning. Once the coroner's investigators and police release the home, the decision passes to the family, the executor of the estate, or the building owner. In Greenhills, where some original townhomes are owned and others are rented, it helps to confirm who owns the unit before anyone schedules work.

Forest Park has many apartment complexes. Their managers often require that any outside crew be approved by the office, so bring the property manager in on the first call.

What to do next in Greenhills or Forest Park

In a Greenhills row house, warn the neighbors in the attached units and keep shared basement or attic doors closed. In a Forest Park home, shut the door to the room and switch off the furnace fan if it pulls air from that area.

Take photos, collect the police report number from Greenhills or Forest Park, and call your insurer to ask how a claim would work under your policy. Eligible crime victims can apply to the Ohio Attorney General's compensation program, which may repay part of scene-cleaning costs.

Planned on paper, built in two eras

Greenhills was one of three greenbelt towns the Resettlement Administration built during the Depression, alongside Greenbelt, Maryland and Greendale, Wisconsin. Its first homes went up between 1935 and 1938: International-style townhomes, row houses, duplexes and apartment buildings. About three-quarters of the village is now a National Historic Landmark district.

Forest Park came later. Developers Marvin Warner and Joseph Kanter bought 3,400 acres that had been held for the greenbelt in 1954, sold the first house in 1956 and laid out lettered sections, from C Section, first called Cameron Heights, through R. Single-family streets dominate, with apartments and commercial land near I-275 and Kemper Road.

For cleanup, the difference is practical. A Greenhills row house shares walls, and sometimes attic space, with the units beside it. A Forest Park split-level may have a lower family room with carpet over a slab. Both details affect what has to be removed and how the crew keeps the rest of the home clean.

Winton Road, I-275 and the Butler County line

Winton Road is the spine of both towns. It cuts through the middle of Greenhills, continues north through Forest Park, and becomes South Gilmore Road at the Butler County line, a naming change that confuses many drivers. I-275, built in the 1960s, bounds Forest Park and gives quick access east and west. Kemper Road, Waycross Road and Northland Boulevard handle cross-town traffic.

If you are calling about a home just north of Forest Park in Fairfield or Fairfield Township, that property is in Butler County, which this same 513 line also serves. Give the provider the full address so they know which county's coroner and police were involved.

Winton Woods, the county park holding Hamilton County's largest lake, lies in neighboring Springfield Township. If the home has a long driveway, a steep yard or no street parking, mention it so the crew can plan where to park.

Greenhills questions, answered briefly

Can a crew work in one Greenhills townhome without disturbing the attached units?
Generally, yes. The crew seals off the affected unit, controls airflow and limits the work to what was affected. Let the provider know the home is an original Greenhills row house so they can check shared walls, attic space and plumbing runs, and tell the neighbors when work is planned.
Is a Forest Park address in Hamilton County or Butler County?
Forest Park itself is in Hamilton County, and its ZIP is 45240. Just north of the city, past the county line where Winton Road turns into South Gilmore Road, you are in Butler County. Both counties are served by (513) 962-0944, but the provider needs the full address.
Who decides on cleanup for a rented Forest Park apartment?
The owner or management company controls the building and usually approves and arranges the work. A tenant's family can start the call, but the property manager should be involved early, since many Forest Park complexes require outside crews to check in with the office.
