Biohazard and Trauma Cleanup Referrals Across Suburban Hamilton County

Hamilton County · 28 ZIP codes · Cincinnati side line

In Hamilton County's suburbs, neither the police nor the coroner cleans a home after a death or crime. That work falls to whoever controls the property, and it is done by private cleanup companies. One free number, (513) 962-0944, puts the caller through to an outside cleanup firm that takes county jobs anywhere from Harrison on the Indiana line to Anderson Township by the Little Miami.

A county of enclaves, planned towns and township subdivisions

Hamilton County counted 830,639 people in the 2020 Census, and most of them live outside downtown Cincinnati. The suburbs are not one thing. Norwood, St. Bernard and Elmwood Place are small cities and villages completely or nearly surrounded by Cincinnati, packed with two-story frame houses on narrow lots. Greenhills was built by the federal government between 1935 and 1938 as a greenbelt town, and its original International-style townhomes still line streets off Winton Road.

Farther out, the housing changes again. Forest Park grew from 1956 in lettered sections of ranches and split-levels. Colerain and Green townships, each home to roughly 60,000 people, are mostly post-war subdivisions, apartment complexes and commercial strips along Colerain Avenue and Harrison Avenue. Delhi Township's hillsides were once covered in carnation greenhouses before houses replaced them. Wyoming keeps about three hundred 19th- and early-20th-century homes in its village historic district.

Why this matters for cleanup: a 1910s Norwood double with plaster walls, a 1938 Greenhills townhouse that shares a wall with a neighbor, and a Colerain split-level with finished basement carpet all call for different work. The crew that takes the job should look at the actual building before describing what has to be removed.

The Hamilton County Coroner, now in Blue Ash

Ohio counties use an elected coroner, and Hamilton County is no exception. Its coroner's office and crime laboratory moved in 2021 from the old building on Eden Avenue in Corryville, beside the UC medical campus, to a new facility at 4477 Carver Woods Drive, in the northeast suburb of Blue Ash. Dr. Lakshmi Kode Sammarco is the county coroner.

When a death in Forest Park, Delhi or any other suburb is sudden, unattended or under investigation, the coroner's investigators decide what happens next. Their part is over once the inquiry wraps up and the person who died goes to a funeral home. They do not clean the room, and neither does the local police department. Once the scene is released, the family, the estate's representative or the landlord arranges that work privately.

Who answers the 911 call depends on the town

Policing in suburban Hamilton County is a patchwork. Norwood, Reading, Wyoming, Forest Park and Mount Healthy run city police departments. St. Bernard, Elmwood Place, Lockland and Greenhills have village departments. Colerain, Green, Delhi and Springfield townships each have their own township police. Reading officers also patrol tiny Arlington Heights, which disbanded its department in 2016.

Some places use the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. Anderson Township, for example, contracts with the sheriff as District 5. Cincinnati neighborhoods that sit among the suburbs, such as Sayler Park on the far west side, are covered by Cincinnati Police District 3 from its headquarters on Ferguson Road. Whichever agency responded, ask that agency, not the cleanup company, when the property is released and whether a report number is available for insurance.

Finding your town's page

The Mill Creek corridor along I-75 holds the older industrial suburbs: Norwood (45212); St. Bernard and Elmwood Place (45216 and 45217); and Reading, Lockland and Wyoming, which share 45215. North of them sit Greenhills and Forest Park (45218 and 45240) and Mount Healthy with Springfield Township (45231).

On the west side, Colerain Township and Groesbeck use 45239, 45247, 45251 and 45252. Green Township has its own page for 45248, and Delhi Township with Sayler Park covers 45233, 45238 and 45051, the Mount St. Joseph ZIP. The far west is covered on the Harrison page and the Cleves and North Bend page.

Northeast and east of the city, separate pages cover Blue Ash and Deer Park, Sharonville and Evendale, Springdale and Glendale, Montgomery and Sycamore Township, Madeira and Indian Hill, Anderson Township, and Terrace Park with Camp Dennison in the Little Miami valley.

Edges of the county: what outlying callers should know

Hamilton County is covered all the way to its borders, including the farm and woodland edges of Colerain near the Great Miami River and the Whitewater River country around Harrison. Distance and I-74 or I-275 traffic can affect scheduling, so ask the provider for a realistic arrival window instead of assuming one.

The line stops at the state lines. West Harrison sits across the border in Indiana, and the Anderson Ferry from Delhi lands near Constance in Kentucky; neither Indiana nor Northern Kentucky is served here. If the property is in Hamilton County, the address and ZIP are enough to place the call with a provider that works there.

Paperwork that tends to follow a death or crime in the county

Executors handling a house in Wyoming or Delhi will usually deal with the Hamilton County Probate Court, which sits on the 9th and 10th floors of the William Howard Taft Courthouse and Law Center at 230 East Ninth Street downtown. A provider can usually wait for written approval from the person the court appoints.

If the cleanup follows a crime, an eligible victim can ask the Ohio Attorney General's office to repay reasonable scene-cleaning costs, with $750 the most allowed on one claim. Homeowner policies often help with damage to a Hamilton County house, but each policy reads differently, so call the insurer and keep every invoice and photo.

Questions about Hamilton County Suburbs

Is home cleanup after a death part of what the Hamilton County Coroner does?
It does not. The coroner's office in Blue Ash investigates sudden and unexplained deaths, and its staff remove the person who died, but no county office cleans the home afterward. That responsibility passes to the family, the estate's representative or the property owner once investigators release the scene. A private cleanup company does the work, and this line connects you with one that serves Hamilton County.
Is every Hamilton County suburb served, including the townships?
Yes. The whole county is covered, from incorporated cities like Norwood and Forest Park to unincorporated townships such as Colerain, Green, Delhi and Anderson, plus Cincinnati neighborhoods mixed in among them. The only limits are the state lines: properties in Indiana or Northern Kentucky are outside this line's area.
For a house in Blue Ash, Colerain or another Cincinnati suburb, which number is right?
Call (513) 962-0944 for any property in Hamilton County. The line passes you to an outside cleanup company active across the county, and you can discuss the job, ask questions and decide whether to hire them. Calling does not commit you to anything, and the line can be called at any hour.
Can a landlord in Hamilton County arrange cleanup for a tenant's unit?
Yes, and in many rentals the landlord is the right person to do it, because the building belongs to them. In a Mount Healthy fourplex or a Forest Park apartment, the landlord's property policy usually handles the structure, while a tenant's renters policy mostly concerns belongings. Tell the provider who owns the building and who will sign the work order.
